Yes, she’s got a platform, but let’s look at two things here. First, she didn’t ask to be the poster child for trans rights. She asked to be a Congresswoman. Whether we choose to see that differently is on us. Not everyone is cut out to fight culture wars. What she’s done is something most of us never imagined we’d see: she’s made it to high office while being openly trans. That, by itself, is a bold and courageous statement. She has to walk those halls every day knowing that more than half her coworkers can’t stand her, and the rest probably wish she’d pipe down about being trans.

Second, she hasn’t even started the job yet. Expecting her to pick a public fight with a sitting Congresswoman before she’s even unpacked her office is ridiculous. Honestly, holding back for now is a smart move. We have no clue what she’s going to do for trans rights once she’s in office, so maybe cut her some slack and see what happens.

The truth is, we’re not helping ourselves when we keep turning on our own. It’s no wonder people are getting sick of us. We’re alienating regular voters and eating each other alive. That’s not a winning strategy when we’re trying to sway public opinion. Let her do her thing and see where it goes.
