Transgender people are a Microcosm of society. You have a wide range of Ideologies, ages, and cultural backgrounds. Most importantly everyone has their own ideas about how the trans community should represent itself. I do not believe in censorship within the ranks, and it irritates me when other people in the community try to silence someone. True, there are opinions I feel strongly about, and that I may want to publicly rebut. At the end of the day though they are my comrades in arms, and our war is with a society that would silence us as a whole; not each other. I am glad you have found a proper discourse with your friend, we all should do that instead of fracturing the community over petty ideological differences. Here in Washington, we have two groups that are the same members basically and the same ideas. But they are divided on whether or not to embrace law enforcement. because of that any time someone wants to plan an event or share something, BOTH groups need to be notified. In Tacoma, one of the most progressive cities in the country, the LGBTQ+ community is fractured deeply over petty squabbles. If we cant learn to bond over our common needs as a society, how can we expect the rest of the world to take us seriously?
