I appreciate the suggestion of the Transgender Archives at UVic, and I’ll take a closer look.

As for ChatGPT, I think of it as just one tool among many. It’s not perfect, and yes, it does require careful prompts and fact-checking. But with the right approach, it can surface valuable perspectives and even uncover information that’s harder to find through traditional search engines. For example, I’ve set mine to include inline references to cross-check where the information comes from. Like any tool, its value depends on how it’s used, and I find it helpful for gathering insights, even if it’s not a substitute for more comprehensive research.

On the question of representation, I agree that many trans women contribute as organizers, artists, writers, and more. My focus in the piece, though, was on how straight trans women, in particular, are often less visible within these narratives. It’s not a lack of contributions but rather how certain stories tend to dominate public awareness, leaving others overlooked. This isn’t a critique of the broader trans community but an effort to highlight where representation gaps still exist. Further, my goal was to try to outline a common feeling among straight trans women that we are taken less seriously in Trans spaces.
